spotlight: tooth & berry jewelry

November 10, 2017

Since I started my minimalist journey, I've been more mindful about not only what I purchase but where I purchase things from. That is why I made the decision to buy mainly from small crafters and artists when possible, especially when it comes to luxury items like jewelry. Not only does it feel great to support someone in their creative endeavors, but you also get the satisfaction of knowing that what you are buying was made ethically and, likely, with very little waste.

I am very lucky to have a friend who makes some gorgeous pieces and, with a little bit of extra money last month, I was able to buy a piece that I'd had my eye on for quite a long time (as well as the best impulse purchase I've probably ever made). You can find Leigh's shop, Tooth & Berry, on Etsy – and definitely do go and check it out because her stuff is beautiful. There are at least 10 more things I would buy right now if I had the money.

First, let's talk about the packaging. Perhaps it seems like a silly thing to talk about, but there are two things I love about this packaging. One is that you can tell some care went into it: the hand stamped logo and the twine wrapped around the paper made it feel like a proper gift to myself. The second thing I love is that everything is either reusable or compostable! It may not have been intentional, but it was a definite perk for me.

And, obviously, my cat liked it.

But the important part is the jewelry itself. And it certainly didn't disappoint.

This is the necklace I'd had my eye on for... well, a really long time. You can definitely see why: it's freakin' spectacular. Three rose quartz stones are housed in the middle of gold hematite and paired with two smokey quartz pendants on each end.  Rose quartz is one of my favorite stones and it is paired perfectly with these other elements. The chain is long enough that it fits over my head comfortably but not so long that it gets in the way. It sits at the perfect length and is so well made.

Plus, do you see the care that went into the packaging?!? I can't get over how much I love it. I felt like an Earthy Witch Goddess when I opened it up and, let's be real, who doesn't want to feel like that?

Plus, it goes perfectly with the impulse purchase I made when I bought the necklace...

Yes, those are earrings that say Moon Baby. You see, if I were to describe my style, it would fall somewhere between nerd, hippie, and witch. (One time I got an anonymous message that said I had a "pretty witch look" and, honestly, it's the best message I've ever received.) Like any good witch, I love the moon. So I instantly felt a connection to these earrings and had to have them.

Seriously, I cannot stop wearing them.

It's obvious that a lot of time and care went into these pieces and, let's be real, they are cool. I know that's not, like, a hip word to use these days, but they make me want to watch The Craft and live my dream of becoming a very well dressed sorceress.

My name is Bianca and I've spent the last 28 years of my life learning how to love and take care of myself. Self-love and self-care are hard things to learn and even harder things to live out, but we're going to go on this journey together. So let's talk about what we can do to make our lives peaceful and joyful so that we can grow and be thankful for where we're at!
